It comes to a time when you need to hire people so you can do less teaching and get more time to grow your Art Studio. And you don’t only want to hire the best teachers and staff but keep them for a long time. Building your best team has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with a killer recruitment and retention strategy.
How to recruit an A-Team
You need to present yourself as the BEST Art Studio to attract the BEST people.
Instead of an uninspiring post like: “Teacher wanted, painting, Art Studio name…”, describe your Art Studio values, write about you as the Owner, what do you believe in, and why they should join you team. You want someone, who wants to be part of your “community” not just work for the paycheck. You want potential staff to read this and say: Wow, yes…this is where I NEED to be working.
How to keep your A-Team
Ok, so now you have your awesome staff on board, but your job has just begun.
Too often Art Studio owners find their A-Team and then either:
Both are dangerous. One means they leave and tell everyone you’re a control freak, the other means they leave and potentially open up their own Art Studio and take your students.
So what do you do?
This is my secret sauce right here. If you want to retain your A-Team, then your role is about being a MENTOR to them. Make them feel like they are in a complete partnership with you. Have their back, not only review their work but see how they progress personally. Brainstorm with them about what to do differently or better. Have a beautiful working relationship.
