5 things to attract Millennials

Picture
Whether you offer classes for kids or young adults, you are tapping into the millennial market (the under 40 crowd). They put a high priority on experience and self-expression. What is more is that a recent Study of the Association for Creative Industries indicates that 41% of Crafters are millennials.  And those are the ones who will take your Art Classes.
They put a high priority on experience and self-expression.

So how to make them choose YOUR Art Studio?

1. Be Digitally Savvy

Millennials have grown up with technology and they use their smartphones to access digital content. So make sure you offer online registration. They will use their phone not to call you (that is so old fashion😊) but to check and book your classes.  This generation also likes to support businesses that align with their values (i.e. developing creativity, re-purposing used things, using natural materials, etc.) Your Art Studio can tap into these tendencies through social media by showing behind the scene content and peeking into your classes.

2. Be Social

The Millennial generation craves a sense of community, both online and offline. They want to meet others crafters and people with similar lifestyle to theirs. Your Art Studio is one of the places where they can do that. Offer classes led by enthusiastic and friendly teachers. In addition,  create a sense of online community by utilizing social media and encouraging conversation through engaging and useful posts related to your classes (why is that yarn better, what was the most rewarding thing in your class, etc.)

3. Create Unique Experiences

This particular group doesn’t want a traditional painting, sewing or pottery class. They want new and exciting experiences. Millennials are attracted to classes led by motivational and attentive teachers. Make it special (and don’t forget!) Instagram worthy with unique setup and frequent breaks to snap a picture.

4. Appeal to Shorter Attention Spans

The Millennial generation is on the lookout for classes that fit into their busy schedules. Shorter classes that last between 45 minutes to an hour are great for attracting Millennials. Flexible drop-in options can also help to get this generation into your Art Studio. Having teachers who are efficient and interact well with the class can help Millennials feel like your At Studio is respecting their time.

5. Emphasize Local Business

Community is especially important to the Millennial generation and they love to support locally owned businesses. Your independent Art Studio is exactly the type of business that they want to support. They appreciate personalized customer service where they fell appreciated. Stick to those roots and focus on building relationships with your millennials so they will continue coming to your classes themselves or with their kids.

In Conclusion: your classes should not be about sewing, painting, drawing  but about the experience they will get out of them and how that will make them unique.
